BBs teleporting 2 (when Harbour is conquered!)
Both Kongo Class BBs I wrote about here were not sunk upon taking Shortland, they were teleported back to Japan and were immediately available, no delay!
How comes (V 2.5)? [X(]

I don´t know. A few months ago they were asking for a location where submarines got stuck around New Guinea or Australia for Carrier Force as they share the same engine, at least partially I guess.
If what you say is right you should send Mike Wood a PM and ask if he wants the turn sent to him so he can look at it.

I agree with Ike99, mabe you've found a bug.
RE: BBs teleporting 2 (when Harbour is conquered!)
Save the prior turn and that turn and if it's requested then send both with a description of the problem.

PMed it to Mike Wood, keep you informed if I hear something.

This is a KNOWN bug. See previous threads ( last at top of page 2 - from yourself ). However, I am unaware if Mr Wood has details for examination, so by all means send them to him if you can replicate/do so.
I am unsure why is was not fixed at the last patch - perhaps the bug has not yet been traced.[:(]

Well, the thread you talk about was teleporting BBs our of active TFs, which somehow could be intentional (forces withdrawn by High Command or whatever). This time we have ships in a harbour that should go to the sunk ships list when I conquer the harbour. That's a completely different issue, that's why I called this thread BBs teleporting 2.
Actually,I don't suffer Alzheimer's desease (hopefully). [:-]
But wait, what were we taliing about?[;)]

Is this repeatable Long Lance?
My understanding DEB from the other thread is sometimes Japanese Battleships may teleport back to Tokyo in October as a messed up withdraw order bug but then become available again.
Does this only effect battleships and, only in October?

I seem to recall a post about this from Matrix to the effect that this type of ship withdrawl was not a bug but a deliberate coding by the UV developers. My understanding was that since many players didn't care for this feature, it was either removed in 2.5 or going to be removed in the distant future.
I dimly recall a scuttling remedy for ships in a captured port, but I'm not really sure about this.

In my PBEM WPO game I forgot a ship in Manila and when the city fell to the Japanese it was scuttled.

It is repeatable. I loaded up head-to-head before I took Shortland. Two Kongo Class BBs in Harbour. Played a turn, then ordered the US to take Shortland. They did. Both Kongos sat in Japan with NO delay afterwards. They were even repaired. Anyway, no answer from Mike Wood so far, perhaps UV is too old to expect that it wil be patched again.
According to the manual, all ships in harbours that are conquered are sunk. IIRC, that's the same in WitP except for subs.
Both would be rules that make sense IMHO.
Yes, in the other thread, the Kongo Class BBs were teleported out of active TFs with a delay of 60 days or so. It was October or November 1942. IIRC, two went back to Japan, two remained in service. Not sure at this point, and no saves of this. I don't know if this happens only in Oct or Nov. A wild guess would be that Noumea is a 'door' to Japan for Japanes ships as it is to Pearl for US ships and they are sent on upgrade or whatever. A wild guess...
Anyway, could be that this is intentional, but I don't like this 'feature'.
RE: BBs teleporting 2 (when Harbour is conquered!)
From Admiral dadman in reply to tankerace (back in 2003?)
Destroying the harbor (100% port damage) simply means that the Port is not usable to load or unload Fuel/Supply/Troops. It will not stay at 100% if there are enough Engineers (as contained in an ENG unit) and they have sufficient supply to repair the damage.
The anchor sign is gone because no more ships are sighted in port, as they have either sunk or been formed into TF's.
When you capture an enemy base, all enemy ships at anchor are then sunk.
Tankerace agreed, but then someone replied that, in his experience, these ships are not scuttled but "teleported" back home.

From the UV pdf:
8.27 Captured Ports
When a base is captured all ships at anchor at that base are sunk.
When they updated UV to 2.5, I don't know if they updated the pdf manual as well, or if this was supposed to be the case from version 1.0.

I recall checking something like this when I first had the game. The version number then was 2.30 and the UV pdf did NOT show several of the revisons made between 1.0 & 2.3! I believe ( I may be wrong ), that the patch notes are the "pdf update".

Apologies. I did not appreciate the difference when reading your comments.[:(]
RE: BBs teleporting 2 (when Harbour is conquered!)
On the plus side to ships not being sunk in Shortlands when captured is this probably will only happen in games against the A.I.
I can´t imagine a human player leaving ships in Shortlands port when it is about to be captured. Unless of course they knew about the bug and were intentionally trying to take advantage of it but that would be very unsportsman like and probably start a fight.

No AI-only thing, I repeated the bug when I played head-to-head with myself.
Sigh, still now reaction from Mike[:(]
RE: BBs teleporting 2 (when Harbour is conquered!)
Just studied code. Says some ships form tasks forces and make a break for it and others are destroyed. Would need to see save of turn in which combat took place (before base was captured) to know what your situation is.

Wow. You don't check your inbox too often, do you? [;)]
Anyway, thanks for te reply.
I still have the save the day before the US took Shortland, starting on the US-side, two saves for the next day starting on the Japanese side, one with Shortland under US-control, the other one under Jap control.
I could mail them to you. Anyway. none could expect this to be fixed for such an old game. Esp if this would slow done the release of AE [:-].
