[UTILITY] Max FB Database Editor v 1.6.2

Post by jdhalfrack »

File Name :: Max FB Database Editor v 1.6.2
Author :: JDhalfrack
Description

Uninstall the old version before installing this newer version!

MAKE A BACKUP before using this program. I am not promising that there will be no errors/bugs that will ruin the file.

CHANGE LOG v 1.6
- Added a blue line to the random distribution graph that will appear after you do a random distribution to show you the approximate frequency in which the values were ACTUALLY chosen (NOTE: the fewer things it randomizes, the less accurate the blue line will be... so, if you're only randomizing one skill of one position on one team, the blue line will look a little silly because it's basically only randoming about 4 or 5 things)
- Added a graphic behind the player's images if they have one, or in the top left corner if they don't (this image is L1.bmp in the team folders of each team, so if an image doesn't show up, it means that the player's team doesn't have an L1.bmp associated with them)
- Changed "Junior Football" to "College Football"
- Changed it so when the database is saved, it automatically ALL CAPS the jersey names
- Changed the Jersey Name text box to only allow 10 letters (this will allow you to see exactly what is on the jersey)
- Added the options to Export and Import Rosters in .csv format

CHANGE LOG v 1.6.1
- Fixed a wierd issue with the import rosters menu (I noticed it before publicly releasing 1.6... which is why this is 1.6.1)

CHANGE LOG v 1.6.2
- Included the MaxFBDatabaseEditorIniFile.mdb file in the packaging (I accidentally left it out of version 1.6.1)

THINGS THAT DO NOT WORK:
- Currently, anything that is "greyed out" is there because I plan on doing work on it in the future, but it not accessible right now. It's easier to add the structure when adding other things, so that's why it's in the program.

THINGS THAT I AM CURRENTLY (STILL) WORKING ON:
- code for viewing / editing all other player images
- code for adding a new player through the editor
- code for exporting / importing rosters (don't hold your breath for this happening soon)
- the "Teams" tab (basically... an editor for teams)
- the "Stats" portions of the editor are basically complete, but with the new Max FB update 2.2 coming out soon, I will release it with my first update after the 2.2 release

When using this program, clicking the "Temp Save" button saves the data on the current selection to the program, but not the database. To make all changes permanent (aka, save them to the database), goto Database --> Save.

I am aware of the current list of suggestions/addons and am working as fast as I can to incotperate everything. Just a heads up, though, anything involving extracting/importing is easy code, but takes a LOT of time setting up the correct format. So, those types of functions will come around later.

Goodluck and Enjoy!

RUNTIME error 3024

Whoops!

It's the same database from the previous versions. If you don't have it still, download an older version and save it somewhere. I will package it correctly in about an hour (LOST in on right now).

Sorry!

JD is there a way you can edit the camera view to be broadcast or a closer sideline view?

Much can be done with statistics and database files in an editor, but in game items like camera views can only be done by David.

Ok, I really like that very close broadcast view in replay. It makes me see my uniform creations come alive. If I could, I would use this view.

Thanks a ton for this latest update, JD!  In addition to the import/export functions, the jersey names being saved as ALL CAPS is a big help also.

Now, if it hasn't already been added to the wishlist, a player creator/generator gets my vote as a future enhancement.  Maybe it can be done already, but using the Max FB utility is pretty slow going to create some quick randoms to fill out a roster.

I'm not sure what youa re asking for here.  Maximum Football already creates far more than enough free agent players to fill out rosters. One often has to actually pare down the number of players to make it more realistic.

I agree with Marauders here. I'm not sure 100% why you want a player generator. But, that being said, it shouldn't be too hard to make one. Explain in more detail what is wanted (and perhaps why) so I know a little more.

JD

By the way, since my first goof up (forgetting to put the ini file in) I haven't heard about any other issues. Is this the case?

Sure thing - I mean that an individual player creator would be good when trying to fill out a roster after importing it into an existing league file.  Then, I can add players on the fly to match up with the current depth charts.

Definitely, MaxFB creates a bevvy of players when you create a fictional league.  So, it's only for purposes of real-life roster management, I suppose.  If it's somewhat easy to accomplish, then it would be a much appreciated enhancement, but if not, it's only just a few extra steps for me to import a free agent file and re-name players.

Anyhoo, no bugs with my use of the editor for me, and I've pretty much tried every function out associated with the importing and exporting as I determined the best procedure for me to assemble the NFL roster in the mdb I'm working on...

Ohhhh, okay, that makes sense. I agree, if you're working on a roster within the confines of the Databse Editor, then it would be much quicker (well, maybe) to generate players within the Editor. But, regardless, within time I will get that accomplished. The actual code to make this happen really probably isn't too hard, but it will take a little time.

All right.  I thought that could be done with the original utilities included in the game.

Run the editor. Go to Database-->Open and find the Databse you want to use. The things you can do/change is fairly obvious once you load a database. After you make changes, save the database. The updates should be noticible in the game.

If you need more help than this, let me know exactly what you need help with.

Hey JD - minor bug to report (if it is indeed a bug) and a question:

I just finished importing players into an existing league mdb and it went off perfectly on its face.  Everything seems to work in game as it should, and the fields all appear to have transferred over correctly.

The only issue that I seem to have found, and for me, a minor one, is that when I imported the data into the mdb I chose the replace existing player data option.  MOST, but not ALL, of the players from the original db were wiped out.  The players that were left from the original db were about 10 guys on the 49ers roster (team #31 in the mdb) and all of the existing players on the Rams roster (team #32).  Not sure why this happened, but just wanted to let you know.

So, I'm going thru now and moving the duplicate players to the free agent list for now.  Is there an easy way to permanently delete these remaining players from the db once I've identified all of them?  Thanks to the editor, I'm almost done with phase 1 of the rosters (ie, having the rosters match the Madden info with 54 players on each team), and phase 2 should be much easier now that the heavy lifting is done.

It's weird that only you have reported this so far... usually that means that I forgot to package the MSFLEXGRD.ocx component. But, no one else has reported this issue.

Anyway, you should be able to fix this issue by going here: Msflexgrid and downloading that file.

Put it in your windows/system32 folder.

Let me know if this helps.

Yeah, that is definitely weird... I havent seen that happend yet, but that doesn't mean I don't believe you. After all, my prgrams always start out buggy until you guys help me out. Anyway, with as much detail as you can, let me know exactly what steps you are taking (as well as what you are trying to accomplish with each step). We'll get to the bottom of this.
Is there an easy way to permanently delete these remaining players from the db once I've identified all of them?
Yes each player has an option to "Delete Player Upon Saving" associated with them. Click yes for the players you want deleted. When you save the database it should delete them.
Thanks to the editor, I'm almost done with phase 1 of the rosters (ie, having the rosters match the Madden info with 54 players on each team), and phase 2 should be much easier now that the heavy lifting is done.
I can't wait to see the final product! Good luck and let me know how my suggestions work out for you!

Everytime I click on the link to download it again, it does not click on the link, but rather refers me to another page with the link and so on....Could you e-mail me with it or set it up again. By the way all the past editors worked fine, I have no idea whats going on this time.
