I have a painful and inexplicable situation in one of my fictional associations. My team, The Flint Eagles, has taken first place in its division for the last 8 seasons. These guys have the best W-L record in the association in 5 of those seasons, and are first in number of runs scored for all 8 seasons. But when they get to the playoffs, they
stink out loud. In those 8 seasons, they have never once made it to the World Series, and only twice survived the first round of playoffs. The pitchers seem to be doing their job, but there is just simply no offense at all. They lose games by scores of 2-0, 4-1, and can't score more than three or 4 runs even when they win. My franchise players go 0-for-October, and the few players that do get hits rarely make it past first base.
I keep telling myself that these guys aren't really human and can't be doing this to me on purpose, and that an AI-induced "team slump" at every playoff time is simply beyond the pale, so I guess it just must be a case of, "Oh cruel Fate, why do you mock me?"
It is to weep. But as I have said for the past 8 seasons...WAIT 'TIL NEXT YEAR!
