Post-Season Roster Sizes?

I noticed an odd thing today. After the regular season ended, I was immediately taken to the game menu for the 1st game of the World Series. I was carrying 27 players in September, so shouldn't I have seen a prompt to reduce the major league roster back to 25? I did the reduction myself, but that seemed a bit odd to me. I'll have to check the AI opponent to see how many players it is carrying.

OK, I checked the Yankees, and they had indeed reduced to 25. That's good.

Hmm -- perhaps I would've seen a roster prompt had I clicked on "manage game" while keeping 27 major leaguers? I don't know.

Yes- that's where it checks. I did the same thing; I went into the post-season with more than 25 players. I don't know how many I ACTUALLY had, but it was more than 25 and the game would not allow me to continue. I received the same error one gets when they attempt to play a game in-season with more than 25 on the active roster.
 
I don't know why it's not one of the checks while preparing for the off-season... perhaps that would be a better time?
