What Team Should I Take?

I need some help, guys. With 1.72, I want a fresh start. OK, I won it all with the '47 Dodgers, so a challenge is needed. I'm considering the '39 Dodgers, just so I can take over from that SOB Durocher in his first year. They finished third, behind the Reds and the Cardinals.

The thing is, I don't wanna go too far into the past or too far towards the present. For just a moment, I considered the 1952 Pirates, whom were truly awful.

I AM gonna dump using financials, so it's gotta be during the reserve clause era.

Any ideas?

I was going to suggest 1941, but I see you have signed your new contract. I just resigned from the Cardinals Organization and signed with the Yankees. I couldn't get the performance from the Cardinals I had hoped for. No power, even from Musial ans Slaugther. Any way I took over the Yankees in 1944. What a bunch of old guys I have. The average age of my pitching staff must be 33 years old. Man!!!!!!

My vote for a challenging team to take up (in roughly the era you're talking about):

1944 St Louis Browns - There was a war on. Surely that could be the only reason for this....
1945 Chicago Cubs - ....the war was still on.
1949 New York Yankees - they won 5 in a row between '49-'53; should have been 6 but didn't make the post even tho they won 103 games in '54 (Indies won 111 and then dropped 4 straight to the Leo Durocher Giants in WS).

Ok, I'm thinking it over again. The first year of free agency --1976. Hmm, there's a thought. 1977, when Seattle and Toronto entered? The Dodgers were good, but so were the Yankees. 2001, when PNC Park opened? Possibly.
