MechWarrior: Living Legends

Post by gazra »

There is a free online multiplayer game mod called 'MechWarrior: Living Legends' that is about to be released within the next few months. This game mod uses the 'CryENGINE 2' game engine so you will need the PC computer game 'Crysis' to be able to play this game mod. This game mod has awesome graphics because it uses such a cutting edge game engine. 'Wandering Samurai Studios' (the developers of this game mod) have been given permission by Microsoft (who own the Intellectual Property for 'MechWarrior') to release this game mod because it is strictly for non-commerical use.
This game mod has two game modes. 'Solaris Arena' basically allows two teams to fight to the death. 'Trial of Annihilation' is a battle for the map itself. Your objective is to take away your opponents bases, thus conquering the planet or area. There is a campaign scenario of 3 maps laid out to re-enact historical engagements between the Inner Sphere and the Clans. Inner Sphere 'Mechs are in a state of disrepair before they even enter combat because of the lack of equipment available to maintain the machines of war and a lack of skilled labour across the Inner Sphere.
There are approximately 28 different 'Mechs in the game mod (including the 'Raven', 'Bushwacker', 'Mad Cat', 'Blood Asp', and 'Atlas'). There are over 47 vehicles (including the 'Mechs), including tanks and aerospace fighters. Large maps are 8 km by 8 km in size. There are modular weapons, heat tracking on vehicles, and some of the best maps from earlier games. Battle armour will be able to jump and attach itself to the vehicles to ride into combat. Aerospace fighters have been slowed down significantly. This game mod uses the same rule sets that the original game contained but some aspects have been tweaked or modernised. The four different paint schemes that 'Mechs can have in this game mod are 'Jungle', 'Desert', 'Wasp', and 'Gunmetal'.

You can check out this game mod at http://www.mechlivinglegends.net

P.S. LarkinVB, my apologies if you do not approve of my using this forum to advertise another computer game. I just thought that all fans of 'Mech games ought to know about this new 'Mech game.

Thanks for the information.  I perused the site for several hours last night.  I certainly loved the images.  However, I personally much prefer a game like ToS.  From the looks of it, these two represent the difference between strategy and tactics.  Strategy is the overall, commander viewpoint.  Tactics are more in the trenches.  I much prefer to think about not whether I could take down the enemy or not, but rather whether my unit should be there in the first place.  This game has an excellent niche it fills.
