pbem human control of minors question and other questions

Post by jjdenver »

Hi,

If you are playing as Germany vs AI and you get Spain to join axis you can save game, set spain to human control and restart to be able to control their forces. What happens in PBEM? How do you enable player control of a country that enters on their side?

Also I see some events happening - is there anywhere to see a list of possible events so I can plan ahead a little?

Do STP's ever accumulate or get granted automatically? It seems like my Italy has more STP's than I bought - I'm not sure where they came from.

Italy and some other countries have units w/ 1 movement point stuck in mountains. How do you get them out? Only by strat move?

Why do Italy's troops have such low movement allowance compared to Germany? Can Italy change this?

Minors seem to have independent economies - can they ever get money from or share tech with majors?

I've seen mention of Gibraltar falling easily - why is this? Brit air could base in north africa to support Gib? Is the problem that Gib can be attacked from 3 hexsides? And Gib is not actually a fort hex?

Is there no way for ships to go from Suez around Africa?

In one AAR on this forum the Axis successsfully battles for control of the high seas. How is this possible? The Axis navy is much smaller and as Germany I don't have the PP's to invest in navy. What is the strategy followed by Germany/Italy to contest the seas?

Thx

You can use the f1 option to change minor AI to human control.

I don't think so I have never seen that happen.

While Italy (and any other nation) is neutral its units have restricted movement. They will get their full movement allotment when they enter the war. They also are at lower supply levels and cannot strat move until at war.
Minors seem to have independent economies - can they ever get money from or share tech with majors?
Its possible to send money via convoys. Its not possible to send tech, unless you count sending them the funds to buy a lab?!
I've seen mention of Gibraltar falling easily - why is this? Brit air could base in north africa to support Gib? Is the problem that Gib can be attacked from 3 hexsides? And Gib is not actually a fort hex?
The problem is in my opion because Spain can be so easily wooed to the Axis side. Then Axis air will allow it to be taken eventually.
Is there no way for ships to go from Suez around Africa?
Nope. I wish there were.

There are alot of ways. But taking 'The Rock' and having a German-Italian fleet helps. The italian fleet is quite large, and if you keep it safe from the french fleet it stays that way usually. Some diversion of funds to build additional fleet units also can help. If your willing to forgo any of your traditional Eastern Eurpoean Allies till '43 (or '44)you can also activate Vichy which usually has a substantial Navy to add. I have only done this once, but it gave me enough Naval power to overshadow the allies. I believe Vichy gave me a CV a pair oc BB's and a slew of CA's (although I might have built a CV with the Italians I forget now)
