Combat Engineers in WITP question

Post by matt.buttsworth »

For Allies, what units are combat engineers? I have found the American ones listed as combat engineers, but do Indian units also have combat engineers? Are there any base forces or seabee units which also function as combat engineers? How do I recognise which units are combat engineers? Please advise.

If you see the words "engineer squad" on the unit data screen, then it has combat engineer capability.

Yup. If you see "engineers" then they're the guys that build stuff, and don't flame thrower or satchel charge it.

IIRC early in 1942 there are a couple of "combat engineering battalions" that the US gets either at Pearl or the WC.  When I check their TO&E there are only combat engineers, no construction engineer squads at all.  However, again IIRC, by 1944 these battalions are gone.  Did they get split up and parceled out into other combat units, or do they keep their formations as a battalion?

Matt,

In the SEAC area, when the Chindit brigades arrive, they have a large amount of intrinsic comb. engineers. Also, the USMC divisions have a large amount of comb. eng.

In India in about April 42 the Brits get 3 small Engr Regts - Bombay / Madras / Bengal Engr Regts
The Philippine Army starts with one (14th PS Engr Regt)
The US starts with one at Midway and one at PH (34 US Engr Regt / 11 US Cbt Engr Regt)
On West Coast whether at start or as reinforcement by summer 42 there are three - 18th, 19th & 47th US Engr Regts

EDIT: this is in BigB mod - not stock
