Alliances?

Post by miral »

This is a lot of threads for one day, I admit, but I have limited access to internet and want to ask while I can.

Has anyone made an alliance? What level diplomacy building do you need to make this an option? What happens after you do? That is, what do you get from your ally and what do you owe, in terms of resources, military aid, ect. I wonder because it takes a deal of effort and money to get a state friendly enough to reach the Alliance number needed on the diplomacy screen. Is it worth it?

More questions occur: Does the AI form alliances, and how can you tell if they have one? Also, is there a way to see what another state's relationships are to all the others?

thanks

Never really understood the alliances, except when it comes to vassalization. The ai definitely vassalizes others.

Your dipo screen only shows the status of your relationships w/ other states not between other states. It's pretty easy to guess how they're getting along. Different ethnic groups get along worse, presence of armies, etc.

Of course, it is too late now, but Spartan could really have used a Diplomatic Realtions Matrix, so the player can follow the realtions between the multitude of states. But, one could counter argue that, as you point out, you should have to infer these from various data, as it is unrealistic to know the precise level of all the relations of states. Perhaps a matrix with approximate relations within a margin of error? You're drifting Orance.

I am currently playing a game in which I have over the number given for an alliance when I check my ambassadors in Corinth and Argos but I am not given the option of asking for an alliance. So it must be necessary to have a higher level diplomatic building that I currently do. We shall see. If I ever resolve this question I will report results.

Thanks

I've played through every city state in all areas and have tried to form alliances - there is no way of doing this other then, when other countries turn green, they generally won't attack you (if you move past a large army with a one-dot one, they'll often attack their ally). Simply stated, no option is available to do this with diplomats no matter how many stars they have and no matter how highly developed is your diplomatic buildings, and no matter whether you choose diplomacy or espionage tracks. I've tried it with every available ethnic group with all possibilities. Oh, well, it would have been nice but its a fun game regardless.
