Import Prior to Debut Issue

Post by henry296 »

I'm using the option to import players prior to their debut and I've noticed that the players imported prior to their debut are ending up on major league rosters in that first season. I started the 1976 season and I see a decent number of players who didn't really debut until 1978 or 1979 in the majors in 1976. A couple of examples, Paul Molitor, Don Robison, Jesse Orosco. In my opinion, those players might need to have their ratings tone down a bit.

I agree that players imported prior to real debut should have their ratings toned down a little bit more

Henry, we have discussed this before. For historical roster associations, it is NOT a good idea to incorporate early draft entry. The ONLY exception might be to use it in say, 1946, if only to bring up Jackie Robinson and break the color barrier a year early.

I have a different take on it. I like the idea of bringing them in early as it adds a little randomness to the replay. And if a player actually came in earlier than his real life debut, doesn't it stand to reason that his ratings should be fairly good since he's being picked up by a team sooner than he really was?

I apologize for coming off too strong. It's nice to have the option, but I choose not to use it.

KG - I understand the potential issues, but it is an option in the game and I think it is worthwhile to provide feedback to Shaun.

I like to watch the prospects coming up through the minors as opposed to immediately appearing the major leagues.  I think that is one thing that distinguishes baseball from other football and basketball.   However, if all the import early option does is accelerate that process of having super stars appear in the majors, you are right it shouldn't be used because it is not successfully implented and should be turned off.

Let me give one more example for Shaun.  Just started a 2004 season and Joba Chamberlain made the Yankees opening day roster.  Here are a couple of more:  Joey Votto, Dustin Pedroia,  Carlos Gomez most of whom didn't make the majors until 2007.

Henry ...

Ditto in about "I like to watch the prospects coming up through the minors as opposed to immediately appearing the major leagues." But, I'm like KG ... But that what so great about the game - so many options to attract the uniqueness of the PS07 owners in so many different ways ...
