A cruiser that shot and sank herself

Post by fbs »

There are a few cases of submarines that torpedoed themselves (or almost), but this is the first case I've found of a cruiser that shot and sunk herself... :-(

Completely useless loss of life...

The weird thing is that if that happened in the game, a lot of people would think WITP is broken and a 4 year effort to mod this would start.

[:D][:D][:D] How true! Not to mention that complaints would roll in that the 20mm was over-rated...

That looks like some bad coding to me! Probably left over from WitP. No way these guys would have something like that happen in AE and absolutely no way that could happen IRL. [;)]

Anyone knows if there is a chance that a defective torpedo will run in a circle, in the game? That would make a bad day for the sub (or at least break her attack).

Cheers! [:D]

Seems that bad shooting and overpowered 20mms are more common than we thought! Or maybe its just bad coding. [:D]

That is really strange, and what a tragedy. Geez can you imagine what went through that sailors mind,( assuming he survived the initial explsions )

That cruiser must have been the USS Plaxico Burress out of New York. No doubt trying to leave port and shot himself...Luckily the USS Posse was nearby and rescued the survivors

Wonder if that counts as street cred? [:D]

LOL, that is actually a fantastic analogy.

Not having train stops installed to prevent a gun from actually hitting its own ship is about the same as carrying a Glock (no manual safety) tucked in your pants with a round in the chamber.

I didn't see this one but something even worse...

Cruiser Atago was in a TF in Tulagi. I initiated a "new TF" to create two cruisers SCTFs and suddenly by clicking on Atago in the list she disappeared from her half-screen but never reappeared in the other one where I wanted her to go back. In the general list she appeared as being in Tulagi - a US base at that time. The trouble was that in the following night a small enemy transport TF arrives (2 DD/2AK) and my cruisiers fought them... with the Atago in MY line! BUT she started shooting at MY other cruisers that of course each time replied to her... and I can imagine the short distance in case of torpedoes... fortunately the US TF broke off quickly - certainly by seeing the crazy japs shooting at themselves. I thought that maybe it was a "night" FOW leading to a big confusion but still, the Atago was part of no TF so it smells bug. Two weeks later a night fight close to Rabaul, I wanted to sweep off 2 DD raiding my incoming TK. And then... SURPRISE, the Atago was aligned with MY ships, shooting at them, and my BB managed to sank her... after she damaged 2 of my CL. End of the Atago mutinery.

Was this auto-bloody bug already pointed out ?

This was in Guadalcanal scenario. A problem of "without TF CA after a create TF in enemy hex/base, attached to a US TF since then and fighting his own side". I think the problem is that when including a ship in enemy base hex, then excluding it, makes it go to the base and not in the initial TF.
