Is it sad that I got excited at seeing this thread appear, even without reading the article yet?? [:D]

Cheers Erik (and SoM)!

OOh! that's interesting. Taxes on colonies actually remove wealth from the private sector, so private enterprise is hampered if you tax too high.

Last Screenshot, -29k from civilian and +29k to republic.

How often do you find such nice splinter colonies next to you at game start? is that a regular thing?

Nearby splinter colonies are pretty common at the very start of the game. You usually can found about one of them. Of course, this is all dependent on how you set up the game in the initial setup screen.

LordXorn - they are actually more like Seals or Sea-lions. As far as space-faring hamsters go... well... [;)]

Xmudder, taxes are assessed on the Private economy. So you have a real reason, besides getting resources, to cultivate your private job sector with mining operations, resort bases, Star Ports, etc. It's a little more complicated than just More pop = more money - although having a higher population IS usually a good thing.

And if you guys like this preview... wait until you see the research and galaxy preview coming next!

A higher res version of that Empire Summary screen - for those curious:

Xmudder, taxes are assessed on the Private economy. So you have a real reason, besides getting resources, to cultivate your private job sector with mining operations, resort bases, Star Ports, etc. It's a little more complicated than just More pop = more money - although having a higher population IS usually a good thing.

And if you guys like this preview... wait until you see the research and galaxy preview coming next!

So cultivating private economy is good, both so it can produce things on its own (like freighters) and so you get more tax revenue from it. Does the private economy ever build construction ships, or can it just build a mining base spontaneously? This reminds me a bit of Vicky Revolutions, where your cappies will build factories and railroads for you if they have the money.

What do you usually do with your first 6 warships? Set them to convoy escort duties?

Look forward to the research preview, I still don't quite "get" it from what has been said here.

Edit: Is is usual that most potential colonies have few resources, forcing you to trade with your mining out posts? or is this an unusual screenshot - 1 nice habitable colony and 2 medocre ones, resource wise.

Good preview but terrible Matrixgames style low res screenshots spoil it.

By the way, one of my favorite options is on that second screen, the "Aggression" setting. If you want to live in a galaxy where all factions can _in theory_ get along, then leave it on Normal. If, however, you prefer the idea of some races simply being generally on the warpath and a threat that needs eternal vigilance to counter, crank it up to "Unstable" (or even Chaos if you like a lot of combat).

I'm really forward to reading this article. Thanks and good luck with finishing the game! I would appreciate some more info/features like this, while the artist is finishing his job. Is there a way to pre order the game?

Note: I actually preempted Ashberry's requests and posted the high-res copies here.

Just note - these pictures belong to Matrix Games and Wargamer.com, so they should not be used without permission.

What is the maximum number of planets per system? Only 4 plus moons? Or more?
