How can I load troops only?

Post by Scouters »

Whenever I give orders to load troops the computer also loads supplies simultaneously (to fill in those transports that still have room). This has the undesired effect of delaying my departure and, more importantly, removes supplies from bases like Port Moresby when I need those supplies to stay.

Am I doing something wrong with the orders?

Thanks,
Scouters

Scouters,

When I want troops only, I create my own AP TFs, ensuring they are JUST the size I need to carry those troops and no more (give or take a teeny bit).

Troop loading...

Post by Erik Rutins »

There's no way to absolutely, positively load only troops. That said, there are two methods I use to get close. It may be useful to have this option as an explicit command because of the problems pointed out with low supply bases, so we'll put it on the wish list as well.

1. As Preacher said, trim the TF down to just what is needed to load the unit. Once it's loaded, transfer the loaded ship or ships back in the main TF if you want them to travel back together.

2. In some cases, units will load quickly while supplies will continue loading for several days afterwards. If you check and see that the troops you wanted have loaded, just cancel the loading procedure and get underway.

Regards,

Supplies vs Troops

Thanks, I'll use those workarounds!

My problem....

I want to embark troops at one port, then move to another port and pick up more troops with the same task force. This can't be done when the game insists on cramming supplies onto my APs.

There should be an and/or toggle. Load troops AND supplies, or load troops only.

On top of that, when you get to the new port, there is no way to tell it to unload ONLY supplies, and leave my men embarked. To make room for more men.

I spent a whole week loading a division, then unloading the division, only to have to reload the whole thing again with the other troops I wanted. I felt like driving down to the pier and shooting the dock master.

As a related issue, could we find a way to prevent TF's which enter a port from automatically refueling. If I send a surface TF to Lunga for protection, I don't necessarily want them to tank up from Lunga's limited fuel supplies, especially if they still have plenty of endurace left.

Maybe TF's should only auto refuel from their home ports, and have to be manually ordered otherwise? Or maybe when you set a port destination, you shold be asked wheather you want to dock or not when you arrive, and if you chose not to dock, no automatic fueling takes place.

Remember that a ship can only carry one (1) unit. If you have a 3000 capacity AP, and it only used 1500 of it's capacity for it's one unit, it will not load another unit.

See rule 9.21 of the manual, page 60.
