Distant Worlds is a vast, pausable real-time, 4X space strategy game which models a "living galaxy" with incredible options for replayability and customizability. Experience the full depth and detail of large turn-based strategy games, but with the simplicity and ease of real-time, and on the scale of a massively-multiplayer online game. Now greatly enhanced with the new Universe release, which includes all four previous releases as well as the new Universe expansion!

Disappointed With The In-Game Editor

Post by TheLastRonin »

The in-game editor (while a good idea) isn't very robust at the moment.

Not being able to edit basic things such as:

- Planet quality
- What and how many resources occur on a planet

is a bit of a downer when I am trying to set up specific scenarios (such as recreating a more realistic starting galaxy for the Humans).

I beg the devs, please increase the capabilities of the editor, think of how many maps and scenarios will be opened up if we can start editing simple things such as this [:)].

EDIT: Also surely it would not take long to quickly add in a way to select planet quality and resources? Perhaps a small patch could be released after the expansion?

I agree - there should be an option to change planet quality and resources and it would be great if we could add ring arround the planet to increase scenery. That way would be able to set up our own scenarios ingame. Another idea is to add a new quick start option: player starts on a super rich planet (continental with rings and everything) in some isolated system far away from everything.

Is this a possibility to be added? It would greatly improve the editor?

Anything is possible, we'll add it to the wish list.

Thanks Eric. I mostly purchased the game due to the promise of it being 'customisable' and while willing to wait for more in-depth editors for tech and ship components I think that without the ability to truly customise planets with the In-Game editor making scenarios with any depth is just not and will never be possible [:(]. There are people such as me that would be more than happy to create scenarios and mission-sets if we only had the tools at our disposal. Please consider it strongly seeing as the editor is already functional I'd wager that it wouldn't require more than a little bit of legwork to just increase the functionality that little, tiny, teeny bit more.

We'll be adding these features in the first update for Return of the Shakturi:
- toggle planetary rings on/off (for non gas-giant planets)
- add/remove resources
- edit planet quality
- edit planet scenery bonus and description
- edit planet/star research bonuses

That's so awesome [:)], thank you! I hate to push for more but could planet size also be included? Then planets would be totally customisable :D.

PS - we will be able to add remove resources and size and stuff for everything right? Not just planets?

PSS - Any word on when the first update might be here?

I'm so excited :D.
