Question about German HQ units in combat

Post by mantrain »

Just wondering if any commanders use the HQ units to engage in combat? looking through their support attachments, some HQ units seem to be well equiped for combat. however, is it not risky to commit such valuable units into the fray?
thanks

You should probably take a look at the manual, those support units cannot be used in combat by themselves, they are sent in to support other combat units by the HQ or can be assigned directly to other combat units.

I agree, if left adjacent to an enemy unit the HQ will displace and reappear next to its parent HQ w/o movement points remaining and possibly beyond command range as well.  When my HQ's are near the front lines I stack them with a combat unit for protection, theirs!  The small usually battalion sized units they control as reserves are dependent on being with command range to be added to a attacking or defending unit.

I think the way to look at it is, that the support units are not necessarily physically with the HQ, but are more likely near the combat units to be allocated into each combat, as required by the relevant HQ. [:)]

If a HQ is attacked and it is stacked with a combat unit, from the time I saw it you get an automatic maximum commitment of support units. But it is a tad hard on the HQ rear area troops, supply dumps and fuel dumps to be in that battle.
