controlling artillery

Post by henri51 »

When calling in artillery in a wide sheaf, the artillery is isuallly spread out in a line; is it possible to control the direction of that line? For example, if one wants to use smoke to cover a flank, it is not very useful tohae 4 artillery objectives in a line perpendicular to the flank line, one would like to spread the artillery out along the flank.

Perhaps the programmers should make it so that the line is automatically adjusted, i.e. if the target point is in front, the artillery would be spread out in a line along the front, but if the target point is on the flank, it would be spread out parallel to the flank.

It is based on where the OBA is on the off map area. If you open a scenario in the editor you can see where off board assets are placed. It is somewhat similar to real life in that a battery of arty lined up in a row can only fire in a certain pattern.

I see that in CMBN you can draw a stripe on the map. I think that is similar to what you are asking for. Don't know how realistic it is but it sure would be nice at times to get the arty close to where you need it.

Artillery could fire in any pattern but normally it would be in a line or some form of a diamond.
