Combat Command

How does this game compare to ToAWIII? I have been thinking of buying it, but would someone describe the game to me. Since the developer has not been to the forum recently, would Combat Command be a good buy?

It's a fun game. It has "some" issues. Primary being no Developer, but he likes to hang out in Horse and Musket...

It is easier to grasp than TOAW, and the scenarios can be played quickly. Graphics are good, with JMass mods if you like board game style graphics. I do.

I would say it's a definite buy, but the caveat being wait for the developer to show up. No developer then I'm sorry I bought the dang thing.

You will be up and playing in 30 minutes. You may not understand everything, but you will be pushing pieces around with some semblance of what you are doing.

I got surprised in the Carentan scenario. Axis Reinforcements coming up the road dag nab it.

Sorry for rambling.

The 2 games are quite different in terms of scale and complexity. Combat Command is at the company level and very easy to pick up and play. TOAW scenarios are at the larger scale - generally regiment upwards dependant on map - and a much harder learning curve to even get started.

I've played both and enjoy Combat Command more as it's more manageable for the time I've available for gaming.

CC has a phased turn approach that sets it apart from most move and shoot games. Lots of scenarios and overall a lot of fun.
No problem Chief!

And the editor is a lot easier to use than TOAWIII, but not as open-ended, obviously.

Well, if you'd like a free copy of the old Danger Forward, I'd be happy to mail it to you. But I found the new version much more enjoyable for reasons I can't quite pin down, as the game code was supposedly not enhanced.

The biggest difference, is TOAW works on a closed system, or "Black Box", where you really don't know how most of the stuff (algorithms, supply, etc.) are working, but left to just TRUST IT. Sadly, these often have been proven to be quite flawed, the problem is proving something which you are not allowed to see and therefore verify, can take quite some time.
