Best starting tech?

Best starting tech?

I'm just getting back into the game, now that Supernova is out, and I'm trying to decide what's the best tech to start with. The construction tree looks good, but what specific tech is the best to start? Arks, to expand the range of possible colonies? Weather control, for improved growth rate? Or something else?

I like to research arks first. It's a more important tech race between you and your neighbors than the other tech races in my opinion. Colonizing an Icy, barren, dead or irradiated system (especially if they're rich/very rich or have trade goods) before an AI faction does just because you decided to research arks before they did will pay off countless times over in the course of an entire campaign.
