How to speed up the AI turn

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

How to speed up the AI turn

Post by mariof2 »

Hi all,

Is there a way to speed up the AI turn, or is it just going to take that long to grind through all those calculations?

My PC is pretty decent:
I7 950 with 6 GB of RAM running on Win 7

As a side note, the AI turn flys by when I play WITP Admirals Edition.

1. Set message level to zero
2. Zoom all the way BACK (less time drawing lines and such)

+1; as above....takes 5 mins max when playing GC, except for the opening turn....gives you time to get a coffee...
Molotov : This we did not deserve.

Foch : This is not peace. This is a 20 year armistice.

Y'all 'r amateurs.

I started AI software development in the early 1980's, in fact one of my first computer related projects was a general heuristics (AI logic) in common lisp, along with a traffic simulation that would calculate optimum driving routes on a topographic map, much the same as in-car navigators do today (except taking hills into account). That's a fair amount of thinking for computers of that vintage, in fact RAM on the system was pretty much exhausted and so the second stage calculations went into video RAM (you could tell when the system was at that point because the screen would go funny).

End to end route planning on a decent sized topographic map would take anything up to 14 days.

The AI is remarkably fast in this game. Remember that a decent chess simulator can take 15 minutes or so to come up with one single move, and chess is a vastly less complicated game from an AI point of view than WitE.
