SPWAW is better!

SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

hello tankhead.

i just gave up my SPMBT game:

i had some german leo 2a1 and leo 1a4 on
a hill, below 10 or so russian rifle squads in OPEN
terrain,not dug in or so.

i fired on them from the hill, between 300 - 500
m distance, my fire seems them not to care.

okay, M109 + 105mm + 120 mm mortar should
solve the issue. no way, firstly even if i had a
FO jagdpanzer with LOS to the enemy the
arty rarely hits the squads. but okay, 155 mm should
also do some damage to nearby hexes as in SPWAW
but nothing like that.

remember the squads were in open terrain....

i closed with one leo 2, okay, after some shots trading
with 3 turns heavily bombarded men, i got a FRONTAL
hit from a RPG7, which destroyed my LEO. not that
i whine about i´m losing (i got used to that in some
SPWAW e-mail games ) but that´s no fun for
me. and the sound of the MG3 from the germans sounds
like it is a children toy. i with this things some years ago, these
game sounds are too bad for me.........

besides that i killed 4 T72M1 with the loss of one
damaged Leo.........

and: why have all INF units the same speed??

a squad with MG and anti tank weapon, which
also must carry the ammo for this weapons
have the same speed like the 4men scout squad
carrying only rifle and some grenades.

a got used to the SPWAW speed of INF system
because it´s that way it shoud be.

Hi Frank!

Remember SPMBT is still in a preview stage yes there is a lot of data need fixing in the obat files. SPWaW had it's share also in the beginning all games do.

You should report here at SPMBT Forum

or here at the Wargamer Forum under Steel Panthers

it will help the boys fix some of the error in the obat files.

As for sounds and graphics it don't bother me it don't make the game. Game play and fun is more important to me. SPMBT and SPWW2 are base on the SP2 engine SPWaW from SP3 engine. 2 different games all together.

I guess that is why I still play my old dos game Stalingrad

yup. i think you are right.

i forgot just some things in my
posting.

we will see how further versions of the game
look like....

and: sometimes i agree with the graphics thing
(playing war at russia right now, which hasn´t
that great graphics, too) but, we now have the power
in your computers too get good graphics -unlike before
4-5 years perhaps - so designers should care with
the graphics too IMHO !

When you aaaaaaabsolutely need modern its SPMBT or TFB basically eh.:)

I don't think to much of non SPWaW versions, but then sometimes its all you are going to get as well.

And the fact it's free (never forget you might be whining over a free game that others would charge 35-50 bucks for).

Modern though should take a massive turn for the better once Combat Leader takes off. But the modern crowd just can't wait apparently.

of course i agree with the "free" argument!

we all were lucky to get these cool games, for
only the downloading cost, depsite the fact i
have all SP1 - 3 , too and payed for them.

so let´s just say "thanx" to matrix and "camo group".

there are so much crap games around you pay much
money for....

Artur, here is the link, you had to go to the 4th page, on the right side under the scenario listings, the upgrade to 1.01 is on page 3, I think!! http://www.wargamer.com/archive/scenari ... sp?ID=2961

Hey, would you happen to have any WW2 era maps of Budpest, or sorrounding area's? My favorite country of WW2 is Hungary, I added a lot of stuff when I started the Hungarian oob for Steel Lightning, before it was SPWAW!!

HI Warhorse!

Thanks for the link!

I actually don't have such maps but maybe I will look after. There was an interesting tank battle in Hungary in october of 1944. I want to make some research, but I have little time.

I saw the names of the hungarian units in SPWW2 and they were very good. Really!!!

I wish it would be the same in SPWaW because it is more advanced. Maybe in some future mod like H2H wich I had once but I lost it.

See you, Artur.

SPW@W is better for all of the reasons you cited! Looking forward to checking out Combat Leader though.

I agree. It's free and much better than many of the games that are selling for upwards of $50. Besides its cool to play around with the modern weapons after playing with WW2 stuff. My one complaint would be that there are a limited number of scenarios with the game (compared with SPWAW), but that will be remedied with time and the creativity of the wargaming community.

The Wargamer shows that it has been downloaded over 15,000 times, so anything that increases the interest in wargaming is a good thing.

Also, I was wondering if anyone has played the free civil war/napoleanic war game, and if so, whether you like it.

Those 15k downloads are an error caused by it recording a download each time the file was accessed even if the download failed so I understand.

That's unfoturnate to hear. I made two attempts to download, so I would imagine the 15,000+ number is overstated at least 2 to 3 times the actual. Even at that, there are a substantial number of wargamers downloading SPMBT.

i doubt if the new games are soooo much better!!

but time will tell. i hope they release some kind of
demo or trial version, because buying matrix stuff
from germany is way to expensive for me.

Perfect example, I set Getright to get the SPMBT file one night (after several attempts daily too). I set i t to try every 5 seconds after registering a failed connection.
Next morning no file, but it was ready to log a hit every 2- 3 minutes.

Not sure how many else in fact did this.
But there is definitely not 15k fans out there (or likely even 1k).

Hi all!

I played a bit with SP world war II and SP Main battle tank. I think that

-as a software and features, SPWaW is _much_ better.(Graphics, platoon highlight!!!,Win compatibility, etc.)
-(as a hungarian) I like the oob of the hungarian troops in SPWWII
- I am interested more in modern battles and equipment, that is why I am very sorry about the fact, that SPWaW does not have modern equipment...

So, if I paly WWII SPWaW is my choice without any doubt.
I cannot decide between SPWaW and SPMBT.
Maybe I will play SPWaW and wait for SPMBT v2.0.

After all I think Both teams deserve our appretiation of making such good games for us... (Even If they have some bugs...:) )

I like generated campaigns in SP2WW2 V5.5 (if I ever find time for it again) as the generated maps are usually better (more realistic) as the ones generated from SPWAW map generator. All in all they still pale due to higher screen resolution and more variety in terrain/building graphics in SPWAW. I also miss CC and the unit formation highlight feature. Not to forget ...Mega Campaigns and the great bunch of scenario designers devoting their time to make more and more good scenarios at a constant rate! :)

All in all SP2WW2 and SPMBT are not bad and definitely worth playing!
