Uncommon Valor Demo

Post by maybewar »

I think it would be a good idea for matrix games to have a downloadable demo of Uncommon Valor, because it's difficult to get a feel for the game otherwise. If anyone else feels the same way please say so.

At this point in time this is something we wont be doing.

Would 21 thousand posts in the UV forums help you to decide if this game is for you? :) there is both the good and the bad in the way of comments there. Also in our Links section we have LINKS to online reviews from several magazines that could help you as well.

Uncommon Valour, its in the Pacific, its WW2, its considered a safe purchase, what more needs to be said:)

If you don't want the Pacific during WW2 that might stop ya , but odds are nothing else will be found as a negative.

Well you do realise, that comparing Uncommon Valour with War in the Pacific is stretching things a bit far eh CCB.

One is a modern game with a great look and the latest software features as well as being compatible with todays hardware.

While the other might be free, it only sat on my computer for 5 minutes before being deleted for being so far back in time, that the interest level is almost impossible to detect (ok I sound harsh, but there are limits to how exciting you can make a DOS game that is almost a decade old, if it isn't now).

Gary is a great designer, but what he had at his diposal then is not at all like what he has at his disposal now for making computer games.

Or are you willing to say that Windows 3.1 is still a contender too? hehe:)

Hmmmm

I would have thought that you would prefer the "retro look" of War in the Pacific, Les.

It looks just like an early 70s board game and it runs on old PC so you don't need to spend any money on upgrades.

Admittedly odd sounding for me of course.

But plain looks best on a board generally speaking.

A computer rarely makes "plain" look interesting. I coined a phrase a while back "minimum graphical thresshold" or something like that.

A computer being unable to show and entire map in one go often makes a plain game a nuisance (my opinion). I don't mind scrolling if the view is good.
