He seems to get mentioned in so many avation books as having tested just about anything and everything.

I have a book by him called "Wings of the Luftwaffe"about his flight testing german aircraft.
Interestingly he consideres the He-162 Salamander as being superior to the Me-262.

Anyone willing to fly a Me 163 earns my respect.

According to the afformentioned book the test flight of the Me-163 he performed was an unpowered flight using a spitfire as a tug.
He had no say in the decision and was disappointed.

Eric Brown has published quite a bit (and been a frequent contributor to the History channel). As a test pilot during and after the war, he flew an amazing number of diverse aircraft. At one time (he may still hold it) he had the record for the most types of aircraft flown by a single individual.
