It's up to you to develop the strategy, issue the orders, set the pace, and try to win the laurels of victory in the cold, shadowy Ardennes.
Command Ops: Highway to the Reich brings us to the setting of one of the most epic and controversial battles of World War II: Operation Market-Garden, covering every major engagement along Hell’s Highway, from the surprise capture of Joe’s Bridge by the Irish Guards a week before the offensive to the final battles on “The Island” south of Arnhem.

"From the Meuse to the Rhine" - bridges primed for demolition

Post by Sensei.Tokugawa »

Been fighting that one out as the XXX Corps in the HTH and in the course of action the main heavy road bridge leading to Nijmegen was blown. The game subsequently crashed and my opponent Skarp enlightened me that such issue strikes once in a while in this game - I didn't know that from my either HTTR or COTA HTHs.

Nevertheless, we run the game from the latest auto save and the bridge was captured intact and unprimed. The German counterattack pushed the exhausted paras back and on the second night of the operation I saw an engineering battalion there and the bridge was apparently being wired again for demolition when I checked its status. Moreover it looks to me as the main heavy road bridge from Nijmegen to the Island is being wired too. Is it possible to wire again - after recapturing - a bridge that was once unprimed? Cannot remember anything like that from the manual, but must admit I haven't checked that yet.

On top of that - I am the only one who is having the impression that the performance of paras has visibly worsened since HTTR and COTA? However, I think that should be measured only in comparison with HTH online games as it plays out in a completely different way than fighting the AI.

They can wire them again, yes. There are timings in the game manual for how long it takes for each kind of bridge - for something like Nijmegan Highway Bridge it will take a looong time... But if you mean the Honighutje Bridge then a bit less. Other things I've noticed - if you capture the bridge intact then it is still, occasionally, possible for the bridge defenders to blow it - if it's still primed - even from quite some distance away. they don't seem to have to be sitting right on the bridge approaches to blow it. So be careful about letting them start to return if it's still primed.

If you shell them/fire at them whilst they are trying to prime it then they will make very little progress, if any.
