Opponent Wanted - any scenario

Post by gw15 »

I can play any scenario or optional rules. I understand oil but have never played it because of the bookkeeping. MWIF solves that problem.
I'm CST and can play Wednesday and/or Sunday nights after 5:00pm for 3 to 4 hours.

I´m interested , but Netplay "works"like crap, instead We can play using "hang-outs" and emailing every impulse finished.
If you want to play that alternative way it´s easy ;

- first you need to have one gmail account (It´s free).
- second if you have that account you can start or be invited to "hang-outs" which allow you to share your screen with persons who are in the same conversation.
- third one of us can iniciate one "solitaire" game, and after doing his turn, will send that file every end of impulse by email.
- fourth when we are sharing our screen during our turn, we can answer directly the other about interceptions and other interaction ( like combat mode choice, etc...) , then It´s no need to send every phase to the other , only the final impulse.
I´ve tested that alternative way and It works, at least better than the bloody netplay WIF multiplayer feature. What do you think about?

Sounds like an interesting workaround, basically leveraging the normally reliable solitaire game for a two player game using Gmail. What sort of timings have you found to complete an 'average' turn this way? I imagine it might be well-suited to one of the shorter scenarios but do you envisage it will also be possible to playing the grand campaign this way?

Two players have played one long Barbarrosa first game turn(deployment + 10 impulses with a lot of air combats and one 3 rounds naval combat) in two hour or so . Even more we are not restricted to two players, if there is someone who want to play ( or only to watch anothers gamers playing ) that way let us to make it possible. Indeed this way is faster than netplay crashing every 10 minutes. Let me know if you want to try it.

I'm interested - and already have a Gmail account - but perhaps a couple of caveats first:
- I have only just purchased the game so I'm still in the process learning the basic rules. Have played Guadalcanal through once (solitaire), and am now just embarking on Barbarossa for the first time.
- I am based in GMT time so, although this should still be doable, clearly weekends would be preferable to get a decent overlap.

How about we touch base in a week or two when I should hopefully be in a position to give you a decent game without making all kinds of basic schoolboy errors.

I'd be interested in trying NetPlay (so I can see these bugs for myself). I am also in the CST Time Zone. I am a total beginner though. I watched all the video tutorials and have been practicing on the the Barbarossa scenario.

Barbarossa works fine in net play. A few small issues in regards to re basing when you over run ships and planes but not that big a problem it cannot be played much more efficiently then by email. Given the resources they had available to develop this game I am just glad its released because it is such a great game. Now it is available in the public domain and more people play net play then this will help identify any technical issues much faster and they have been very active in releasing patches.

We also have been using teamviewer, which is free and allows the other person to interact with the cpu as well. It's free too.

Very interesting , but ... have you tested it playing a game of WIF ?, could you teach me along all the process? .I said this because I could do it, in fact I did that with a person who hasn´t used Gmail hang-out and we play during a couple of hours.
