HQ units

Hello all. If have a question on what to do with the HQ units. Am I better to let the AI deal with them or can I use them more effectively ? They can be quite well armed sometimes but obviously I don't want them to enter the battle but also not waste the firepower.

In terms of Bn/Regt HQs I personally would keep them out of combat, the C3 hit in terms of command cycle time can be quite nasty if they get wiped out.

Company HQs slightly different but still I try to keep them out of direct combat as their lose results in their sub units getting attached to the next nearest HQ unit often means their out of command range limiting their orders (i.e. no assault order).

I would concur with what Tazak posted. For the Company HQ they really need to be up close to their subordinates so that those are kept "In Command" but when casualties mount you usually have no choice but to push them into the fight. For Battalion and higher, I keep them out of harms way at all times but centrally located to my forces, again for the Command and Control benefits.
