I would keep reading the Tech Support thread as a quick way of keeping up to date. If net play is crucial to you in order to purchase, I would say you can keep your money in your pocket for a while yet.

Will Matrix post a Netplay "all clear" message when a serious game between 2 players becomes viable?

No need - you will hear the cheers from London to Hoorn, from Hawaii to Stockholm, from Berlin to...well you get the picture [;)]

When Netplay works, I promise to publish a 'Let's Play' professional 2-player youtube video with no cursing. [:D]
It will really showcase how awesome MWIF is as the ultimate hybrid turn-based game where the non-phasing player is no longer helpless until his impulse.
I'd like to do some publishing of some of my hybrid strategies. [:D]

I am interested in being subjected to hybrid strategies. Especially those that overturn my geriatric tactics. Or was i thinking of generic strategy. Either way once i get my Geritol, I'll be ready for ya!ORIGINAL: Zorachus99

RE: Net play where are we?
We are more eager than anyone to give the "all clear" on NetPlay. It continues to be a high priority each week and a lot of progress has been made, but there are still quite a few post-release issue reports to finish investigating and the proof in the end is in the pudding. We will keep releasing updates and addressing reported issues and believe that we are approaching the point, hopefully in the next month, where a critical mass of sorts will be reached and the cumulative effect of all the fixes and improvements will mean that all the common NetPlay issues have been addressed. You'll probably know at the same time as we do, based on player reports, when we've reached that point. In the meantime, Steve is continuing to work diligently through the issues each week - one step at a time, but we will get there.

Cheers

RE: Net play where are we?
Wake me up when Netplay makes it past the port strike phase.
My suspicion is that Steve isn't doing valid Netplay testing over the internet, and is using local PC's on the LAN to test netplay. The only 'correct' method for testing netplay is to use a remote computer separated by the internet. Testing the game client where both clients are on the same LAN is an invalid test, primarily because of all the different ways computers use to resolve peer addresses on a LAN.

RE: Net play where are we?
A lot of those issues went away with the decision to host the NetPlay games on the Slitherine server. We were much more worried about them before that.
Any NetPlay testing I have done has been from 2 PCs on my home LAN but both need to connect to the Slitherine server. Already that's more complicated than two players in different cities connecting, because I have only one public IP address. I highly doubt Steve does his testing differently, and I have seen the bugs people have reported but nothing that looks to me like a latency or NAT or port blocking issue.

I moved (and rearranged) my office space 20' across the room last week in advance of the construction in the kitchen and the guest bath - a project originally planned to start years ago but only now threatening to become reality. Yesterday I bought a third computer ($334) and I'll buy the fourth later this week. When everything is in place I'll have two screens on my right for machine #1, one on my left for #2, (the laptop), and two side by side behind me (#3 and #4). The deal with the last two is that by pushing the monitor and keyboards around either I can use them or (by facing them the other way) my wife can use them. This is for testing NetPlay with 4 players. I hope to clean up the 2 player capability this month. The fourth machine probably won't arrive until the latter half of February (special order - $3150). All of these go through a router to connect to the Internet in order to communicate with each other when testing MWIF.
Steve

The most disturbing part of that web page you linked was the ad at the bottom that has the picture of the woman holding onto her gut fat and pushing it towards me....
