Attachable support units

Post by FJeff »

Where do they come from? If I attach elements for units in AGN are they not available for AGC? Do I have to unlock HQ support? What am I missing?
And it's one, two, three,
What are we fightin' for?

Interesting topic.

For Germans at least, support units when attached to divisions are not available to any other unit of any type for reassignment. Support units attached to corps HQs are available to that HQ's combat units in combats only. Construction Bns are assigned in the HQ's local area (but ? how large the area.) Support units attached to higher level HQs may be attached to other HQs within larger regions (AFAIK.)

Automatic assignment of support units may be accomplished by setting the commitment level from 1 to 9 and the game code will swap them around until those levels are met (except Engineers & Construction Bns.) Believe the "on the map" location of the Bns is never seen. They seem to "float" around the HQ to which they're attached.

When playing AI as Axis I set all corps commitment levels to 1, OKH to 9, and intervening HQs to 0. After a few turns I manually attach what I want to corps HQs and lock them. Rail OKH around to get this done. Uses a lot of APs, though.

Although some Bns at corps & division level are quite useful, not sure that a lot of them really pay off, or if assignments at higher level HQs ever participate in combats

If any can say better, please do.

I actually just was going to create a topic regarding axis and SUs. What exactly are the benefits of certain SU units? I know the flak units aren't so useful but usually I put them in armor/mot units that penetrate deep into enemy territory and are susceptible to air attack.

But SUs like a bicycle btn? Mg btn? Pioneers are good for riiver crossings and city attacks, stug units?

And how do I get the maximum participation of SUs in battle (from hqs)? Do I set commitment to the # of support units that HQ has or do I lock it? I am not quite sure what locking does yet I am still very nub.
