Modifying Map Size?

Post by Darknote »

I've searched everywhere, and I cannot find a way to change the map size in the game.
You might think I'm ludicrous into wanting a bigger than 1400 star map. But I just enjoy have as big as my laptop can handle it. If I can have 50 races in the game, then bigger than 1400 should also be possible.
Anyone know of any way this could be accomplished?!

Thanks! -Dark

Sadly, 1400+ stars tend to crash the game.

From what I read around here, it's an issue with your hardware, but rather with the game engine itself.

I cannot say with certainty whether or not more than 1400 stars will work. I have raised this question before, but no one from Matrix replied.

What I can say is that in the course of preparing my 'Galactic Star Map' I initially had more than 1400 stars, and every single play through would crash the game eventually. It usually happened somewhere between 20-50 years into the game. When I decreased the number of stars to below 1400, the crashes stopped. It's always possible that there was some kind of problem with one of the stars I deleted, and it was that star that was causing the crashes. However, I suspect not, because I did another test increasing the star number to way above 1400 (around 2500) and the game started crashing much sooner, i.e., within 5-15 years into the game. I suspect that it may have something to do with the number of explored systems that an empire can keep track of, or something like that, because it always happened after a large part of the galaxy had been explored - but I admit I'm not sure.

Incidentally, I doubt this has anything to do with lack of RAM on my part, because I'm using 16 GB.
