Howitzer Heavy Arty doesnt fight?

Post by ReviewGameX27 »

Hi,

I just had a couple of battles where my emplaced heavy arty howitzer, u know that big gun that gives u +1 for sieges, didnt participate in the fighting. Can I assume this heavy arty wont fire and counts more a as a supporter, like engineers?

From what I have seen in the battles where my two German Armies have the heavy howitzers, I do not believe they participate in the battles.

Most likely they are only meant for sieges in game whereas historically they were very hard guns to maneuver and had a slow firing rate.

I've played quite a few games now. Sometimes all of them show up, sometimes some show and sometimes none so it is variable but what influences those variables I have no idea.

I don't think though that buying the big super heavy guns are a good investment in this game system (put your money in infantry and small and medium guns). The Germans already have two batteries which is all you need to enable use of the special siege bombardment option. You can move the two batteries around as needed.

If March to the Sound of the Guns is involved, I believe a factor can be whether the adjoining regions are connected by a rail line. Heavy and Super Heavy guns, you'll note, travel along rail lines. I believe they will not join a battle nearby unless they have a connecting rail line. Of course, this analysis doesn't apply if they are fighting in the same region where they are located.

I had an occurrence where as Germans I lost a battle in the Argonne where I had two fully stocked German armies sit adjacent without participating. Each, however, had a few RR guns in their stack and I believe this is what prevented them from marching to join the battle - there are no rail lines into the Argonne.
