Can't Pick Up Troops

Post by idefelipe »

Hi there,

I've been out for several years and now I want to return to WITPAE and have a small issue. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if with the last patch it is limited, but I'm trying to pick up some troops and the "button" attached to that order is missing.

For example, I can't pick up troops at Rabaul with the Catalinas based in PM. Or pick up troops in the DEI with the Dutch transport squadron from Soreabaja.

Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks.

PS: Maybe this questionwas solved, but after searching in the forum I didn't see it :P

You should be able to. First select troop transport. This will allow you to select a "Destination". Select the destination where your troops are that you want to transport and THEN go back and select "Pick Up Troops" as you can only select that once you have selected a destination (this applies only if your transports are located in the hex that you want your troops to end up in, if your transports are in the hex that you want to transport the troops OUT of, that's a different story not needing the second step). Once you have selected Pick Up Toops, then use the arrow keys to rotate through the available units until you come to the one you want. Stay on that one, and next turn they will be transported! Hal

Some land units belong initially to a command which will not allow shipment by plane, nor ship.
"Australia Command" is one of them. You will need to find another command, and each command change costs money. You need to determine if the "purchase to transfer" is worth the cost.(Early on, ground crew for aviation are a premium IMHO and worth the cost).

You will also find problems trying to pick up LCU's at non port hexes unless the ships are assigned an "amphibious" mission..[;)]

Have a look in the upper left of the unit you are wanting to load, where it says "Attached to: _name of command organization_."

The ones in DEI are probably KNIL Army Command (R), with the R meaning "Restricted" = they cannot board ships (unless their Command organization is changed to an "Unrestricted" command).

If the group name is yellow and clickable you can expend political points to change it to a different "Unrestricted" command which should then make it able to board ships. If the command name is not clickable then apparently it is "Static restricted" and the HQ can never be changed. USAFFE appears to belong to this category.

Have a look at p. 147 and 178 of the manual as well as 7.1.1 and 7.2.4 and also some mention of these mechanics in 9.5 and pages 50, 69.
The x-ray is her siren song. My ship cannot resist her long. Nearer to my deadly goal. Until the black hole. Gains control...

No problem and welcome aboard. As others have indicted, you need to ensure command compatibility. Rabaul and PM are both Aussi restricted commands and you can transport between them. Remember that if you want to move these troops via ship, "Restricted" troops will not be able to board, that's when you need to spend political points to change them to unrestricted (if change is allowed as Anthropoid indicates) if you think it worth the cost.
