Coastal Guns in Campaign Core Force?

Post by AbsntMndedProf »

In my current WW II campaign I've noticed something that strikes me as odd during the fix/replace phase between battles. Among the German unit types that can be swapped for existing core force units is a coastal gun unit. Was this inclusion intentional, or did it just kind of slip through the cracks? Just wondering.

I believe the Russians have one too, and the Japanese have 6 or 8. I think it's a slip. How can you drag your concrete bunkers from Meeting Engagement to Meeting Engagement ?

Unfortunatley at the time the game wasn't smart enough in the repair phase to be able to differentiate between different types of units, so you could almost repair/replace anything with anything in the inventory, men for horses, jeeps for bunkers, A/C for coastal guns etc. Just be the better commander and replace units with like units or upgrades and use it the way it was intended.

Or could it be the effects of a flammenwerfer hitting the side of his beloved M4? :D :D

Speaking of replacing units in between campaign battles - does it cost your unit experience? If you exchange your recon platoon for a bunch of M4's (that one's for you Jess), I suppose all experience should be lost because the entire unit is replaced. But if you exchange an Airborne squad with M1 Bazooka for an Airborne squad with M9 Bazooka (happy day!) then it's just assigning one piece of new equipment...
When cities burn and armies turn,
and flee in disarray,
Cowards will cry 'tis best to fly
and fight another day,
But warriors know it in their marrow when they
die and fall,
It is better to have fought and lost than not have
fought at all.

When you upgrade your units, you experience a loss of experience. :) I think you get your experience back within a scenario or two though. So you shouldn't just upgrade every single time you can or you will really drive down your units' experience.

You also want to be careful about switching units from infantry to armor and vice versa, since there combat ratings are higher in one skill than the other. Example, switching a Sniper to a Tiger is going to give you one very unskilled Tiger crew because the base "armor" skill of your original Sniper was very low.
