oddity ?

Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Starting with the Summer 1943 invasions of Sicily and Italy and proceeding through the invasions of France and the drive into Germany, War in the West brings you all the Allied campaigns in Western Europe and the capability to re-fight the Western Front according to your plan.

oddity ?

Post by freeboy »

Well, I am not complaining about the ai..

I moved several divs of german troops plus I railed in a couple armor divs into Normandy...

I thought the IA would see this and re route the invasion.. oops.. landed and got slaughtered on the beaches with only one beach hex gained on d day
Im playing the may 44 start scen...

Was I incorrect in thinking the AI would route to a softer beachead?
Normandy was tough... almost every other zone was easier

well, this looks better .. the AI did re attack in Pas de Cal area.. still not great for them BUT it looks much smarter after Normandy..
I need to re start at a harder level...
interesting game... .

It will always be easy to defeat an attack if you know precisely where it is going to land. And have the time to react before it happens.

Against a human you wouldn't have that luxury. They would land anywhere from Brittany to Denmark...and not necessarily on a clear May turn.

yep...
I am a little bit concerned about the details of the airwar and frankly do not have the time to invest
My hope is to find a happy medium of settings that allow me to be challenged one on AI....
And yes, its an AI.. I understand that to REALLY play this one needs to play against a human... ala wite or witp..

I have read many of your posts and applaud your dedication

invasions are planned several turns in advance. the prep time for the amphib groups precludes a quick change in landing zone, whether it be AI or another player

@freeboy

I know this is WitW but there is the story of the two Red Army Generals in Berlin in 1945 - one asks the other "So who won the air war?"

I understand what you say - you don't need to master the air war in WitW to get to Berlin from the other direction if you so chose - but the air war is a full game within this game. It's a whole intermediate step to investigate whilst still playing the AI. To be honest I'm still learning air stuff and I masquerade as an expert.

well, Some of my skill set leands to big picture stuff and I played one of if not hte first witp email game to completion.. BUT.. micro managment.. swaping airframes, putting groups on no pilots or add pilots night missions.. this stuff is very cool but a bit of an area playing away from my strengths...
I applaud the design team.. whata huge fluid game with supplies and all.. BUT a lot of investment in time for me.... especially if thats what I have to do to win in an email game.. somewhat daunting.. I understand stuff gets less daunting with emersion... and I remember swapping out stuff in Norm Krogers game? doh.. The huge one that I cannot remember lol

but I do think there is always a happy medium... just not one we all agree one... different strokes... [:D]

You can always play smaller scenarios (that's what I do when I need to stop coding). Besides torch version will let server players to split air/ground commands, so you can find Goering on net and play OKW :)

Wait a second, it is? OH YES. :D

That will be very fun to play, along with the 'arguing' between air and land over certain things. :p

And you'll be able to do it against the AI or 2 other players. So if you have a friend that likes the air, and you like the ground, but you don't want to play against 1 or 2 other players, team up and play against the AI.

Yeah, Torch sounds like more and more fun as I continue to discover its features. I haven't been this excited about an expansion in years.
