1973 War

Post by elxaime »

Just curious, I am wondering if the scale of the game would permit someone to attempt to recreate the entire 1973 October War on all fronts. Not sure if the entire map even exists. I recall though some people making monster scenarios with the old campaign series, including Stalingrad, D-Day and Market Garden.

I have made and include the northern Sinai maps the cover 1956, 1967 and 1973. They are available in the game that can be opened with the Map Editor.

As for the entire war, that's on the drawing board and will be pursued after we develop the event editor (script system) where having a large and complex scenario like that shine.

Also noticed there are Golan Heights maps for 1967 and 1973. Given the time perhaps somebody could use the HPS Middle East 67 game as a resource base to do monster scenarios for slices of the war across the whole front or large parts of it.

Of course now that we can move from day to dusk to night conditions and back again this should feel more realistic. Guess it would also be helpful to have negative reinforcements (withdrawals) and a way to limit the number of airstrikes a player can call in per turn so they don't blow a games worth in one go.

Treating air strikes more like off map assets that become unavailable for a variable number of turns after they are employed might be the way forward here and being able to set parameter data at the scenario design stage to give a set chance that the other side will intercept your requested strikes before they arrive on the map might also be worth thinking about?

Great game by the way

All the best

Those are precisely the types of things we will be working on with the event editor/scripting tool.

But: The event editor/scripting language? Definitely not for ME 1.01. For VN first, then a subsequent ME update.

The Scenario I posted in the "Mods and Scenarios" forum is just that from some "1985" Scenario work I did on that game.
