Strange combat results

The new Cold War turned hot wargame from On Target Simulations, now expanded with the Player's Edition! Choose the NATO or Soviet forces in one of many scenarios or two linked campaigns. No effort was spared to model modern warfare realistically, including armor, infantry, helicopters, air support, artillery, electronic warfare, chemical and nuclear weapons. An innovative new asynchronous turn order means that OODA loops and various effects on C3 are accurately modeled as never before.

Strange combat results

Post by grab »

Anyone else seeing strange combat results.

I just tried FPG Reforged, scenario FPG-A1 SAI.

I had 7/A with 4 M1A1 in hex 1708 ordered to hold and 8/A with 4 M1A1 in hex 1807 also ordered to hold. Both hexes have a 50% cover rate.

3 T80U advanced through hexes 1915, 1914, 1913 and 1912. By the time the T80Us reached 1912 they had suffered they lost of one or two vehicles but the had managed to wipe-out all 8 of the M1A1s. It does not seem right to me that 3 moving tanks can defeat 8 stationary tanks.

T-80Us are deadly tanks. Their AT-11 missile will ruin your day if you're not careful.

Whether a tank is still or moving has less and less impact as technology develops - by this timeframe, Stabilizers were of very high quality. Infact, a good example of this is Operation Desert Storm, where moving M1A1 tanks routinely devastated dug-in Iraqi T-72s.

1986 and the Leopard is a very stable gun platform.

Odd are you had a bad day too. Those things can happen. That said if you have a game save we can look at, we will take a look.

ORIGINAL: grab

It does not seem right to me that 3 moving tanks can defeat 8 stationary tanks.
Seems likely related to the LoS/LoF check issue that the developers have fixed for patch 2.0.11 as that ratio seems to be abnormal for the Soviets to prevail (to that degree), even with advances in stabilizers.

The bug RangerX3X mentions could play into that a bit. We are testing code now with a couple items corrected and things seem better and more to form.

Also noticed whilst playing the same scenario a tendency for the M1's to take on light armour targets when there was a greater threat from T80s closer.

This is normal behavior. Unfortunately. Its a great game but the missing sop feature and hold your fire command is still a vexation for me since release of the game.
