Korea 2017

Post by Dr. Foo »

I'm building a scenario based off of the GMT game Next War: Korea. I do not actually own the game just found the counter scans and rules on the internet.

What I'm stuck on is US mobilization. The game has different levels and with each level you get units based on a chart.

This doesn't help me. My game is one day per turn. All sides are at high alert and the ROK is ready to mobilize reserves.

My questions is how long in days (or weeks) will it take for the US to get heavy units to Korea?

III MEF is pre-positioned, with other units to follow.

Light united like the 82nd ABN can be there quickly.

What about heavy units like 1st Cav? How long would it take to give the word, load up and land in Korea? 3-4 weeks?

2 Stryker BCTs from 2nd Infantry Division based in Fort Lewis, WA will arrive in 1-2 weeks.
The first additional ABCT may arrive on Day 21-24.

The United States Army just abolished the Army Prepositioned Stocks (APS) for an ABCT located in South Korea to activated another regular ABCT.
If your scenario is set before that, the first additional ABCT will arrive in the theater REALLY FAST by airlifting its personnel, maybe on Day 3 or Day 4, or even faster.

Dr. Foo, great seeing you in the Forum!
Nikolai, you obviously have a higher security clearance than mine! (only Top Secret on active duty) Thank you for your suggestions for Korea 2014.

Looking forward to a Korea 2017. Incidentally, I had a problem with a PO Kim Jong-un using his nuclear capability. As a workaround, I used DPRK operative using "suitcase" bombs in various installations with a chance they do not detonate. Let me know how well he does in your hands.

I found the ROK was the hardest force to get data on. GlobalSecurity.com (subscription) was a good source for North Korea.

I freely used Pierro Falotti's excellent Korea 2005 for unit locations, as modified by the information I received from my agents. Please feel free to borrow from 2014. Nikolai, perhaps you could help.
