Engineer units and how to use them in TOAW4

Post by jjdenver »

I have seen various engineer units in scenarios.

Are they good to include in assaults in urban terrain?

Anything else we need to know about units that have engineer squads or bridging squads included and how to use them in game? (other than place them on rivers to help other units move through when bridge is destroyed or not present, and place them in hexes to help units fortify)

In addition to 12. Engineering, you can check any units Equipment to understand its Strengths and Special Abilities by hitting 'U' on the keyboard for a selected unit. Engineer Units and Engineer Capabilities can vary from scenario to scenario.

I will try to deal with the whole subject of combat engineers in my Tutorial '44. I tried to shed light on how construction/labour squads as well as engineers can speed up entrenchment levels and field fortifications in Tutorial '43. Quite a few of us scenario designers/modders created various engineers for various roles; and yes, in general they can assist in tank destruction (if modded as assault engineers with PIAT, Bazooka or Satchel Charges/Panzerfaust).

I tried to find any reference of engineers having a bonus in destroying fortification or being better in urban terrain; so far I couldn't come up with it.

Have a look at my tutorials to see how rail repair and bridging works as well.
