Two questions about airplanes

Post by Realbilly261 »

Hello,

we have two airplane-questions:

1) Some opponents attack with there fighters empty hexes to provoke my fighters to intercept. When no interceptions are left, they attack with their bombers .... Is this ok?

2) What are that hatched hexes under air-units?

Thank you for answers and wish you good fights!

I enjoy the game very much but there are significant shortcomings to the air war.

In response to question 1.

Yes it is a popular (although completely unrealistic) tactic to send fighters first. Germans are initially given aerial warfare research which gives them 2 flights vs 1 for USSR/French early in the game. The German fighters are significantly stronger (will cause mucho damage) so u will need to use significant $$ (which USSR/French dont have)to replenish.

Its my opinion that the German bombers are silly strong after they gain experience from Poland & France.

Also there are no airfields which leads to very unrealistic positioning of air forces across the map. At times entire air forces are in desolate areas in North Africa, Sicily etc.

Its how the game works so you need to adapt.

In case of inferior airforces, I'd suggest to set fighters to ground escort mode; they won't do interceptions this way, but provide escorts to bombers.

Unless the numbers of fighters and their tech lvl increased, the Allies have to rely on their Air Defense mostly I fear.

Hi Realbilly261,

The hatched hex under the air unit is related to the following changes first introduced in v1.10:

- Air units will no longer receive supply from an HQ unless they are attached.
- under supplied Air units, due to not being attached to an HQ, will be indicated by a red hatch beneath the applicable Air unit.
- under supplied Air units, attached to an HQ but not to the most optimal supply giving HQ, will be indicated by a purple hatch beneath the applicable Air unit.

This helps prevent abuse of air power unless you plan ahead with the proper logistical support via supply HQs.
