Defending rivers

Hi guys
A noob question. If you want to benefit from rivers as a defense obstacle, do you have to defend in the hex or behind it ? Thanks.

Behind it. You can toy around with all the aspects of combat, logistics, etc. if you check out the Tutorial 'XX series I have provided so far; Go to the Mods/Scenario section, locate them. Set the filter to the last 14 days in order to have a look at all of them.

13.12.7. unit strengths In water assaults Non-Marine Land units attacking from River, Super River, Canal, Suez Canal, or Deep Water (Amphibious Assaults) have all Strengths multiplied by 0.7.
