Sea Lion with v653N

Post by sPzAbt653 »

This is a Sea Lion AAR using the 653N Mod. If you are not familiar, this mod uses historical oob's and heavy mods to the graphics, spotting ranges, and scripts, with reduced naval units. However, there is no intentionally modded bias toward either side [although the general concensus of historians is that Sea Lion was impossible, or if attempted would fail]. I am controlling the Germans, the computer is running the UK.

This shot shows the plan, taken from the historical but changed slightly. 16.Army will create a diversionary landing at Norwich, hopefully
causing the Mech Corps to leave the London area so that 9.Army and 6.Army can capture Portsmouth. France fell a couple of turns ago, and since then the German ground units have been resting and refitting while the Luftwaffe has been working over the UK Air Units, which have
now moved north out of the shot.

I use a self-imposed rule that HQ's and Armor can only land at a port. This seems reasonable as the Supply Infrastructure represented by
HQ's and Heavy Equipment [tanks] would need port facilites to unload.

653N has no major naval units, only a few subs and destroyers. The Royal Navy is mostly represented by Coast Guns.

I have the capacity to move two korps by regular Amphibious Transport and one korps by Long Range Amphibious Transport. Additionally, the FliegerKorps is ready to drop [circled red].

Once loaded, the three korps only get 1 Action Point, but they are ready to go to the beaches next turn when they get their full Action Points. If the UK had Air Superiority they could blast these units in their moorings and cause havoc.

Meanwhile, the Strats and Tacs will blast Norwich. Hopefully the UK ignores these attacks as a diversion, which they are [but they aren't]

Only one UK Fighter intercepted, and it is conveniently out of range of most of the LW Fighters. I will attack it with the one that is in range, to cause one or two loss points. I have superiority and more MPP's than the UK.

WOW ! Great landing successes, although the attack probability against Norwich is disappointing after all the bombing last turn. However, the UK left Cambridge undefended and the FJ were able to capture it. This means that our beached troops won't be totally without supply next turn. Meanwhile, let's bomb the heck out of Norwich and see what results we can get.

After all the bombing by the LW, the attack odds still aren't favorable. I won't attack. Maybe I should, maybe the aggressor wins the battle ? I am hoping that I can get better odds next turn, and I am praying that the Cambridge Line will hold against an expected UK Mech onslaught.

Well, the weather has gotten expectedly rotten, and Norwich still has a good defense. The LW is grounded, but I did get a Strat Research upgrade, so I can upgrade the one Strat that I have. Seems like nothing to do this turn but get the second wave loaded up while bringing the LW up to strength and upgraded some subs.

More cruddy weather. The LW isn't grounded but they can't fly over ngland. The UK has moved to close in on the Cambridge Line and none of the four German Korps on English soil can get any favorable odds in an attack. The German second wave is ready to hit Portsmouth, but things are looking grim.

The second wave goes in, and some subs move up. A UK Garrison is eliminated but that is little help. Without the LW the Germans are in trouble ! Perhaps some good news though, a Logistics Upgrade has become available, so I can load up two more korps that will be able to ship out next turn.

Ok don't laugh ! I thought I could do better ... but Norwich still ain't happening, and the second wave is stranded with no supply. Perhaps I can bomb London and the UK will give up ? I think that I have to remember that Norwich is a deception, and I must concentrate on Portsmouth.

Ok, I plastered Portsmouth with the LW but to no effect. Then I made a third wave desperation landing between Exeter and Bristol. I just loaded up my last korps. It WILL make the difference !

Snow and Frozen, LW is grounded, all units in England are supply-less. The UK did make a small mistake in not leaving two units next to Cambridge, so there is a bit of supply there. Nothing to do but to wait for the weather or for the UK to make a fatal mistake.

I don't see what I can do ... I will throw one last desperate korps onto the beach, but otherwise I think I have to move on. There are troubles in Africa now as the Italians are getting whipped by the British, and the USSR has many resources that I would like to have ,,,

After the above failure, I shifted to conquering Russia. When I did I let an Italian unit take the Capital and gain all the booty and production. The Italians are very happy !

The beachhead is established and this time with the help of the Luftwaffe, London and its port have been captured. The UK has destroyed the port facilities though, and now I must wait four turns before I can start unloading supply infrastructure [HQ's] and heavy equipment [Tank units]. Remember, I use a self-imposed rule that HQ and Tank units can only debark at functioning ports, which means the port must reach 5 to be useful].

I suppose I better load up a second wave of amphibious infantry.

that's funny. :) That should speed up the refitting of their navy. :)
