Advice on the map reader

Post by FOARP »

Hi All,

I posted on the SC:WW1 modding forum but it doesn’t seem very active. I’ve got some questions about how the map reader application (I.e., the one in the “extras” folder) works. I’m trying to generate a map of North America using the pre-provided map of the US. Generating using the default image works OK, but I’d like to add more sea in the Pacific (I.e., the Western/left hand side of the map), but when I simply add more blue to the left hand side of the default US image using GIMP and generate a map based on it it comes out diagonally skewed. Anyway be know what I’m doing wrong? Is it something about the settings for the PNG image I’m generating?

Also: wow, I’m going to have to do a lot of tidying up on those coast lines!

Hi

What you could do would be to generate it using the default image, and then change the map size as that will automatically add sea hexes to the map.

However, they will be on the right hand side, so you would then need to use the edit/shift contents function. This can take a little getting used to, so give it some practice as changes cannot be undone, i.e. use a copy of the campaign file so that if it goes wrong, you can just make another copy and have another go.

There are some notes on how to use it in the Manual too.
