Weird bug after aborting a NAV with AA

We're playing a PBEM 4-player game and just had a big fight in the Eastern Med with CW, It and Ge forces involved. After a few rounds of combat, CW AA rolls a 5 as the lowest die and aborts a Ge NAV. The subphase is noted as "return to base digression" and I get to move the NAV from the sea area to a hex and then press the wee green button. After that, nothing. The game does not move on. We tried over and over, trying various hexes to return the NAV to, but nothing worked. Eventually, I saved just before we were to abort the NAV and then restored that save. Suddenly, it was the Strategic Bombardment phase, the aborted NAV remained in the sea area along with all the ships that were aborted. It's like the game just ended the phase and moved on.
