Totally Mystified by Workers

Post by 76mm »

In order to boost my logistics network, I recently constructed a Truck Station III in my capital. Instead of the expected logistics boost, my logistics collapsed... While I'm not entirely sure why, I think it might be because of lack of workers. Here are some screen shots, the truck station is on the right in the assets list:

hmmm, that doesn't look good...looks like it is not getting enough workers? How many workers do I have? How many do I need? Here are my regime stats:

OK, so I see how many workers I have...but I have no idea how many I need, how many are used, etc. Also, for some unknown reason their happiness plunged this turn. I don't recall any recent events about worker happiness, although I might have forgotten something about how these peons, uh, valued workers are being treated.

Any tips here?

Please turn on the appropriate logistic overview to see the logistical capacity flow

Which one would you consider appropriate?

The Current logistics points view, the bottleneck view and the projected logistics view are useful.

If you click on the worker's tab in the zone it'll give you the total number of public workers that are needed to fulfill all current personnel demands.

Note that generally things delay by 1 turn as the system processes. Your logistics should be back up next turn as the zone is already hiring new workers. Some 10 000 of them, which should include the about 7 500 or so workers you need for the truck station.

Yes, I use them frequently, but right now given the collapse in the logistics network because of the drop in output from the Truck Station, they are going to show some weird numbers, not sure how helpful they'll be?

I've been looking for this, but must be looking in the wrong place, because this is all I see when I click on the workers tab, or what I think is the workers tab:

Nothing about number of workers needed...

I guess this is the screen you mean...is "public jobs" the number of workers I need? If so, why are so few being provided to the truck station, and why did the workers lose so much happiness this turn?

Just from looking at the screenshots, it's not a worker problem. It's a fuel problem. Remember that all the numbers are telling you what happened last turn. If a number is red, you didn't have enough of it last turn, which would explain why your trucks aren't working.

Edit:

To answer your question about the loss of happiness, you can right click and hold on happiness stats to see tooltips on why it changed. Most stats function the same way.

Why do you ask how many workers you need for this asset, if you already posted the picture that shows it? Upkeep + Production = Worker and Supply use.
Unfortuantely that is so small, I can not get any data from it.

You also sseem to be using 100% Blocks. No wonder you got issues. 95%. Never more!
100% Blocks cause issues, they do not fix them. Ever!
If not even 5% go there, free deliveries for Water, Fuel, Power or Emergency fuel can not happen. And buildings just utterly shut down, for lack of enouhg Logistics going through them.

The issues seems to - unambigiously - fuel. I can not see the numbers, but you are down to 3 digit reserves with a 3 digit consumption.
As that is your Capitol and the SHQ should be right in there, the only possible cause is limited supply.

Workers are not marked yellow, so it is not them. You hada serious hiring spree, but that has to be expected when finishing stuff - especially with delays.

hmmm, I thought that red meant that my inventory declined by that amount, but not that it went to zero...are you saying that it means that it went to zero?

That would explain a lot...

Yeah but when I do that, it gives factor explaining why happiness went down by two, but the posted screen shot seems to show that it went down by 11??

I've been using 100% blocks on roads that don't lead towards any logistics centers, units, or facilities...if there is a farm, mine, etc., I use 95%, or for units or log centers, various levels depending on where I want stuff to go. Is that really wrong?

No, of course that's fine. About the only common problem you might run into is when the private sector decides to build a hex asset somewhere that's blocked and you don't notice it.

It can also be a strategic risk if (e.g.) you have two roads that lead from your SHQ to a city. If you've 100% blocked one of the two roads (in order to maximise efficiency on the other), and then a hostile force cuts the main road, you can't use the backup road to send water/power/LP/emergency food for a full turn (and after a manual change to your network).

Keep the SHQ logistics order in mind:
- Zone Deliveries
- Unit Deliveries
- Production in Zones
- Retreiving stuff from Zones
- Sending out reinforcements

You need the resources in the SHQ before you hit end turn. You can not send stuff you have no yet gathered.
