Air War AI assist

Post by fighterf4u »

How automatic is the AI assist option for the air phase. Would I be fine if I never tinker with anything in the air phase and let the AI handle everything for the entire campaign?

If you turn it on fully, all you have to do is hit "Execute Air Phase" and occasionally change the "Follow HQ" for your top level AOGs and if you wish set an occasional target for Naval Ops. All of that is as the top level and takes a few seconds per turn. I've played well into the campaign with the full AI Air Assist as a test and it has done a fine job.

I think so (then again, I have just started playing it). However you can also not check "Automate AI Air Assist" and just hit the "Air AI Assist" button each Air Phase turn, then tweek or add ADs as you wish. I think you must hit the Air AI button a second time during your movement phase (to move up AOCs when the HQ they are following moves up). While that may be more trouble, it does give you a chance to manually alter the ADs (such as reducing the size and frequency of Recon missions, to preserve your recon A/C long-term).

The AI Air Assist is nicely configured at the start of the 41 Campaign for the Axis so that if you have the AI Air Assist turned on (and remember against the AI you can uncheck the box at any time) you will not have to change anything until about turn 5 when you may start thinking about changing the bomber AOGs to a stance of ADVANCE rather than the HOLD they start with. This will allow them to keep within range of the front.

For those that are not experienced with the WitW air system I strongly advise at least a few turns of doing this to see what the AI does with the air and get a handle on the system. For those that have played WitW it may not be as big of a step but you may also want to do a test few turns just to see the differences that the AOGs bring into the game. It is actually much easier than the WitW air system after you get used to the improvements.

I have tried to "clear all directive" and recreate the directives from scratch using AI Air Assist, and I am unable to adjust the air doctrines to create air attacks (air fields) and bomb city...

...can anyone help ?

The AI assist will not create ADs for the first player on turn 1 of a scenario. It wants to use those that are set up in the scenario file.

Are you wanting to AI to create new ADs for you on turn 1, or are you asking for help with creating manual ADs?

Hi Joel. Thanks for replying in person !

I get it that you can't auto create AD on turn 1 so I just tweaked the existing ones. That's fine

I want to create brand new ADs ON ANY TURN by setting my priorities just like you can in WitW via the screen that auto-opened at each turn.
The one in which you told the system that you wanted ground support in Northern Europe by not in the Med, and that you wanted Strat Bombing to do this and that (I have not installed WitW on this PC, so I can't send screenshots, sorry)...
I found it pretty useful and straightforward.

Does anything like this exist in WitE 2 ? The only new ADs I managed to autocreate on T2 are Ground Support and Recon.

Manual creation of ADs is fine with me, I have played countless hours of WitW, but I want to try the new AI Auto Assist feature to speed up turn routines.

Thanks again !
