Any special tips on recon?

Post by wpurdom »

I was hoping that some of the more experienced players could give some guidance on designing recon missions, such as:

1. how much can you do without too much attrition?

2. how many groups in a mission - or as another way of looking at it how many separate recon missions.

3. What's the point of recon after day 1? or are all days created equal.

4. Altitudes? Area?

I assume no one would have difficulty in sharing their special sauce in this area as it is remote from combat.

Personally I set the altitude to 17000 (for Axis - for Soviets check that you are setting it over 15K but not over top altitude) and only fly one day a week (D1). I will occasionally fly 2 days if I am doing some bombing that I want to check the effects of (D1 and D7). Remember that RECON will change to the proper altitude for their camera setup in the target hex so the 17000 altitude makes it harder to intercept or hit with light flak.

A four hex radius for a Recon AOG with 30+ aircraft, smaller for smaller numbers of aircraft. I do a single AOG per RECON directive - which translates to one per Axis army or Soviet Front.

RECON is great to find the enemy main defensive line and perhaps reserves being built up. Although heavier terrain will mask most units.
