Real values for carrier based planes

Post by ncc1701e »

Since the attack/defense values for air unit is a formula based on experience and effectiveness, the real values are on the left screen based on the advancement level. Easy to read.

But, for carrier based planes, how is it possible to read the real values? Nothing indicates for example the real Air Combat value that will be used or the real Naval Air value that will be used.

Linked to this, there is no way to spend a supply truck on carrier based planes to improve odds, contrary to land based planes.

Carrier based planes need a dedicated counter. A counter that can go on an island if the carrier is damaged, for example, like Cactus Air Force.

Nice idea.

Of course not the contrary, I guess not all the pilots were trained for carrier operations.

I am not adding CV based counters. That makes working the A.I. much more difficult and it adds a lot of micromanaging for the human player.

When you select a fleet look at the bottom the fleet list. There is all the information about the fleet with all the combined CVs values.

Like the PH fleet in 1941 with 6 CVs has a 10 naval air, 6 air-to-air, 5 tactical, 2 strategic, and a total of 18 strength.
compared to a land based air at 41,49 that has 2 naval air, 3 air-to-air, 6 tactical, 1 strategic, an 20 strength.

Well then I don't understand the formula anymore. Take the Entreprise alone. Its carrier based planes have an advancement level of Carrier Operations 1942.

How is it possible that you are finding an Air Combat of 1 with an Air Combat of 5, by default, in this advancement level?

If I am reading correctly, the carrier based planes, of the Entreprise, have an effectiveness of 100% and an experience of 50%.

So, I would expect at least:
1. an Air Combat of 2.
2. a Tactical of 2.
3. a Naval Air of 5.
4. an Anti-Air of 2
5. an Anti-Sub of 1
6. a Strategic of 1

But this is not the values displayed by the game. Am I missing something?

A total of 36 for the carrier based planes; 6 steps each.

I think I got it, you are doing a ratio on the strength too. Here I am at 18 strength and I am finding better looking values.

In my (limited) experience carrier air wings are more effective against naval targets than land-based aircraft. I think this correctly depicts real life events and makes carriers more valuable. A separate counter could be counterintuitive I think.

That is correct. Land based air needed special training to navigate open seas to be a real functioning force against ships. That is why the pilot is so much more important than the plane. Germany produced way more planes than they used.

That being said a group of say 200 CV bomber planes attacking a naval force, about 3 carriers, isn't a match for a group of land based planes 600 in number attacking the same force, 2 bomber air counters. Land based air is incredibly powerful. The physical air unit is there as reserves, they have all the fuel they want, and have a permanent air base.

CV is 3 strength but carrier based planes are 6 strength.
