"Show Me" - no something else.

Post by Emperor0Akim »

I love the "Show Me" button whenever an event pops up or my spineless lackeys suggest something.

Please re-add it to Mining Suggestions. I want to know where the clueless nitwits want to place a Mining Station.

Although I am not entirely happy with the implementation so far.
When my emporial gaze is directed somewhere I would like the view to be centered around the event and but still at a decourus distant.
The zoomlevel not closer than the local planet system and on occasion even the solar system.

Not all the way zoomed in to my Admirals impeccable haircut.

What I absolutely do not want to be shown is the Diplomacy Window when some interstellar hobos ask for handouts.
I want to know where they are, how many there are.
The same goes for all independent cashcows, fellow leaders and future citicens

Not interested in the Admirals haircut either!

And yes, when a new pirate faction, empire, or independant colony is encountered, I want to see where they are, not the Diplomacy Window. What I'd like to happen though is slightly different than what you suggest in term of zoom level:

- having whatever was encountered or discovered be selected (colony, capital, ship or fleet)
- center on what is seleted and zoom-out at the galaxy level zoom.

That way, I have a good idea of where they are from a galaxy perspective, without having to zoom out. And if I want to zoom in on whatever is selected (colony, capital, ship or fleet), I just have to press the backspace key.

Yeah, sounds equally good.
I love the hotkeys for the different zoom-levels.

+1

Been a problem since the original AFAICR.

Also, a search function would be nice for, oh, everything.

In fact while I'm dreaming, it'd be nice if the mention of a system or planet in a message was a hotlink to the location on the map. I'm calling this now and saying that'll never happen but wouldn't it be quite the thing? Maybe in DW3, which I will definitely not be pre-ordering like a sap.

I think it worked quite well in DWU,
either by Link or by blinking Questmarker.

+100 on these two

How a game of that scale, with so many elements in it (star systems, planets, ships, stations, etc.), still doesn't have a search function is baffling to me!

In fact, I'd like to see many search functions, in different parts of the game. For instance:

- in the Galactopedia
- in the galaxy map
- in the tech tree
- in the message log
- in control center lists
- Imagine how confusing it is to a new player!

On the topic of knowing where everything is: It would also be nice to have a system badges overlay setting between basic and off. System names without badges like in DWU. The basic badges are too big and cover too much of the screen while setting it off removes the system names too.

- in the Galactopedia
I forgot you can't even search the Galactopedia. Such a basic thing. Pay an intern to swap the info over to a Wiki some afternoon and you've got a proper resource, and not a game of "guess what topic it comes under".
