Repairing abandoned ships end up owned by Enemy empire

Post by edpovi »

Playing the latest Beta version, 1.0.3.1

I noticed that my constructors are repairing abandoned ships, but when they are completed, they end up owned by an Enemy Empire. I don't recall that happing before, anyone else notice this effect?

Yes, once. I was repairing some ships in a debris field near a Mortalen AI station, and they went to the local Mortalen empire.

I assumed it was some Mortalen story-related thing breaking and just left the rest of the ships in that field.

Can you target abandoned ships? I wonder would that count as an attack on the Mortalen.

It has happened more than once, and I don't see any sort of story event popup about the ship being transferred to another AI empire. Which makes me think this is a bug rather than an "undocumented feature".

It happens evrytime you repare an abandone ships and there is another empire nearby.
What i generaly think is happening is that they respond, to the investigate and takeover messages before that pops up and you have a chance to repond to it.
So untill thats fixed only solution is to not repare it or destroy or chase of any other empire ships close by

Strange I have the opposite problem. Repaired ships by AI's always become mine.

There may be a work around if your repaired abandoned ships are ending up controlled by an AI empire:

It setting your Policy under Exploration > Investigate Abandoned Ships When to "Investigate Report Major" will result in my empire getting control of the ship, but if it's set to "Prompt" it will result in the ship being controlled by an AI Empire (if they have nearby ships).

I was able to replicate both results in 1.0.3.1 beta.

Somebody suggested that the issue is that the event is raised to all empires that have ships nearby. And well, the AI can accept a lot quicker then the average human unless the game auto-pauses. So they get control.

But if you use the auto-investigate, then your game might just be faster.

I've experienced that myself with a repaired Battleship going to an empire that had a construction ship working on a nearby wreckage. For now, until they fix it, I suggest using the game editor to take possession of the ship.
