What is the extent of CMO land warfare simulation?
Does the forest affect the range of "eyeball"?
Can the river hold back the infantry?

Does the forest affect the range of eyeball
Last I recall if you enable scenario options of terrain effects, I believe terrain type can reduce detection range as well as land\mobile unit speed, also big changes in elevation from one elevation map tile to the next (like cliffs) can also effect speed, which in turn can effect pathing choice, which seems is often a shortest path via time\speed calculation preference.
Can a river hold back the infantry
Generally, it's entirely dependent on the elevation data, if it goes to 0 or negative, I believe the pathfinder with attempt to constantly path around it as it will be seen as water. If it's positive (which will typically be the case), and the terrain isn't explicitly water in terrain category, last I recall it will be ignored and treated as land. Often if you run into the latter and want to prevent a x-ing an exclusion zone may be needed to represent the river (with breaks for bridges if you want to simulate that, but make sure the breaks are like at least 1-2nm wide else all the path-finding stuff might not detect\use the gap - or at least that was my experience in the past).

Comments are based on 1147.x, not newer betas where things may or may not have changed, but hope it helps.
