Strange authoritarian profile

Post by Comcikda »

I'm trying to use a combination of Authority Enforcement and Fists in a game, but I'm finding that my game style doesn't match it. I don't want to go to war with major nations early in the game, and instead go to war with minor nations. As a result, my fist profile stayed at a high level, and the authoritarian profile was overwhelmed by the democratic profile due to the number of times I gave in to protests (because I didn't want to cause a lot of fear) and kept the peace with major countries.
It's a very strange thing in and of itself that fist and democracyprofile can coexist. Authoritarian profile, while offering some strategy cards to suppress unrest, does not have a strategy card to reduce fear. This profile seems to be a very bad option.
It's also not often unreasonable in itself that events such as mass strikes happen when there is a high authoritarian profile, think of real dictatorships, do they ever have mass protests?
The game seems to apply the political logic of a democracy on an authoritarian state. Authoritarian states don't crack down on riots when they happen, they tear down any uncontrolled organization, including unions. I hope you will reconsider what an authoritarian state is.

If the authoritarian profile is to be made more realistic, I think the game system should be designed in such a way that the authoritarian profile provides more assassination options, eliminates and bans the opposition party through measures such as banning elections, and prevents events such as protests and strikes altogether.
Otherwise I think the democratic profile is the optimal solution for the current game.

I havn't tried autocracy yet, but it uses fear to control your population. it's a different style of play than the other 2 goverment types

Manual p174
Fear
If present it signifies the Populace of the Zone are (somewhat) afraid of your Regime. Fear helps reduce Unrest, but also limits Population Happiness and Worker Happiness (less so). It does not impact the Happiness of Workers, since they
are considered to be “Regime employees.”

The Fear Score is also the percentage chance your population will suffer a 2d10 Happiness reduction as well as your workers suffering a 1d10 Happiness reduction. However if your Autocracy profile is higher than 40 this reduction will be reduced, and (there is no happiness reduction) at Autocracy-80

For the game I'm currently running, it's nearly impossible to maintain an 80 authority profile without going to war with a major regime. And the low happiness score has led to negative events like strikes and even rebellions in my zone every turn, far less effective than democracy.
Authority profile really need some buff for early game.
