UI enhancment suggestion: sighting reports

Post by mrchuck »

These can only be 'on' or 'off' at the moment. As the game progresses, this can cause more and more visual clutter, especially with larger game sizes. Beyond a certain point they are pretty much useless. You just get a screen mostly covered with blue dots.

Some suggestions for sighting report improvements:

1. Differentiate capital and non-capital sightings.

2. Mouseover sighting reports to get details without having to change zoom level (very annoying, this)

3. Filter sighting reports visually by recency of the report and perhaps level of confidence. E.g. only show me sighting reports from the last hour/two hours etc.

4. At the very least make the reports higher contrast and play with the fonts to make them more readable.

5. Add a direction indicator arrow.

6. Somehow distinguish sighting reports from ships actually in contact, at higher zoom-out levels.

1, 3 and 5 are nothing a real admiral would not be able to do, even in 1890. 2,4 and 6 are strictly UI stuff.
